Removing Limiting Beliefs That Hold Us Back: 7 Ways To Overcome Them

removing limiting beliefs that hold us back

We craft our world by what we think, feel and say, either out loud or in our minds. The beliefs that we hold can either be expanding us, or limiting our potential.

“Beliefs have the power to create, and the power to destroy.” – Tony Robbins

That’s why doing the internal work– observing and removing limiting beliefs that hold us back from our true worthiness and power, and replacing them with new empowering beliefs– is a crucial step in becoming more of what we’re truly capable of.

“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Some beliefs that hold us back from our true potential include:

  1. “I am not good enough”
  2. “I am unworthy”
  3.  “What I want is not possible”
  4. “This will not work for me”
  5.  “Things don’t come easy”
  6. “There is not enough for everyone”
  7. “I have to earn my worthiness”
  8. “No pain, no gain”

Continuously thinking and believing in these limiting programming in the mind will hinder the flow of good things and inspirations that are meant to come. As you keep them active, you block yourself from your source of power and you are energetically calling them to you more and more, thereby proving to yourself how these limiting beliefs are true in your life.

“Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact.” – William James

It is time now to break the unconscious cycle. Taking some steps to gradually release these limiting beliefs will be very helpful in creating wonderful changes in your attractions in life. You attract what you believe. It’s time to become pro-active in adopting new beliefs that will serve you for good.

Remember that what you have inside of you is more powerful than any of the limiting beliefs you have picked up outside of yourself.

Here are 7 ways you can do from wherever you are, to gradually overcome these limiting beliefs and awaken to your true potentiality:

1. Self-reflection and going within.

Go within and examine for yourself why you are believing and carrying such beliefs. Examine where these beliefs have come from, whether it came from somebody else’s opinion of you in the past and you took it as your truth, or whether you have observed it in the lives of other people around you or in the society, and you chose to adopt them for your own life as well.

Getting clear about the origin of your beliefs will awaken you to the fact that most of your beliefs right now are just opinions that you have accepted and adopted from other people – that what had been true for them, you have chosen to accept as true for you too, and thereby attracted it in your life. You will then begin to realize that instead of adopting somebody else’s truth, you can now choose to let go of what is not yours and start creating new beliefs for yourself – beliefs that serve you and your highest good.

2. Questioning the belief, “Is this belief serving me?”

Make it a habit to be a more conscious thinker and ask yourself “Is this belief serving me?” Let your criteria for adopting a belief be the way it feels for you, if it empowers you and your desires, or if it leaves you drained and powerless as you think it. Ask yourself…

Is there a good reason for me to believe something that doesn’t serve me? Why would I continue to think something that doesn’t feel good as I think it? Can I think about this in a different way?

3. Becoming aware.

Catch yourself throughout your day whenever you unconsciously go toward unhealthy thought patterns, and then choose a re-aligning statement or mantra that you can use in such moments to serve as your reminder.

These can be statements you can say in response to those limiting beliefs, such as “yes I hear you but I’m not buying it anymore” or “I’d like to choose a different thought now so I’m letting you go”. You can be playful about this and take it lightly, instead of pushing against the unwanted thought. This will help in letting the limiting thought to easily pass through your mind, and then you can lovingly release its hold on you.

4. Considering God / Source / Universe / Infinite Intelligence.

Consider for a moment what God (or Universe, Infinite Intelligence, Higher Self) thinks about the belief that you are thinking right now. Ask yourself, what would God think about this thing I’m thinking about? Doing it in this way will re-align your thoughts into those that give you power – those that are based on love, worthiness, potentiality, infinite possibilities, blessedness and deservability — because this is how God always thinks about you. Your mind will then come into alignment with loving, uplifting and empowering thoughts.

5. Seeing The Little Child.

As you do this process of observing your beliefs, practice seeing the little child in you who has been unconscious of these limiting beliefs. Refrain from blaming, pointing finger or judging yourself for any limiting belief that you may have, but instead look at those thoughts as coming from your inner child who has been unaware and unawakened until now. See it with compassion, forgiveness and understanding as these will allow you to easily transcend those limiting beliefs, and amplify self-love in the process.

6. Meditation or communion with your soul.

Connect back to the power of who you are and your own worthiness by practicing the quieting of your mind through meditation. Focusing on silence or on your breathing will help in slowing down the momentum of these limiting beliefs and make them inactive for the time being.

This will raise your frequency to the level of love, peace and joy, and little by little, will help in transmuting the old limiting beliefs into the light of your truth. You will begin connecting with what you know to be true for you — realizing your true potentiality and worthiness, and will allow more synchronicities in your life to demonstrate your infinite worthiness and inherent power.

As you become enlightened, you become empowered.

7. Getting rooted in your truth.

From now on, start recognizing and embodying who you truly are– a divine being having a human experience. A blessed masterpiece of this Universe with unique gifts to offer to this world!

Do not base your beliefs and measure your worth by what has happened in the past, by what is available in the present, or by what your human mind can come up with for the future — but by Who You Are. Know who you truly are and connect to your inherent worthiness and divine power.

And as you clear these limiting beliefs, you will notice that you will become lighter and happier in life because you are no longer carrying baggage that are not yours and are not your truth to begin with.

You will then notice and feel within you that the only thing that remains is Love. Because love is all there is, when you start to shed away everything that isn’t who you naturally are.

Start taking care of your thoughts and energies today. Are you ready to do the internal work?
