Living your best life starts with breaking negative thinking patterns and habits that block the way for your self-development. A constant question you may have is, how can I train my mind to think positive everyday?
The answer to this is important to know because increased optimism and positivity will create wonderful changes in what you attract and perpetuate in your life. In this article, I will be sharing with you ten strategies on how to improve positive thinking in your life, to think purposefully and live happily — positive thinking techniques that can change the way you live your life.
1. Refrain from dwelling on past mistakes or failures.
Focusing on what you think had gone wrong in the past is moving in the opposite direction of positivity, and will just take you deeper into negativity and frustration. The key is to take the learning from what you’ve experienced and then move on. Make your mistakes an asset in your life by looking for the good or benefit in every circumstance that happens to you, instead of justifying or defending what went wrong. Do not waste time reflecting on regrets but rather focus on moving forward from where you are.
Every experience, even if it seemed like a failure or a mistake, is always making you better than you were before it happened, whether you’re aware of it or not.
2. Eliminate creating unnecessary stories, conclusions or assumptions in your mind.
Exercise discipline in maintaining a mind that is free from chatter and noises about everything that’s happening around. Overthinking and over-analyzing things will drain you mentally and emotionally, and will take away precious time that could have been spent envisioning your desired results. Make it a habit to regularly do a “private mental cleaning” by letting go of thoughts that are not uplifting or energizing – thoughts that take up unnecessary space in your mind.
In moments of silence and stillness, you are decreasing the momentum of negative thoughts.
3. Take responsibility for your own thoughts and refuse putting blame on the outside.
Taking ownership and control of the way you direct your focus means not give the power to anything outside of you. Know that you are the sole thinker in your own mind and you always get to choose how you define your life circumstances. Your positive definitions will lead to positive experiences for you. Whenever you are inclined to lean towards negativity, know that you can always decide to turn it around, by intending to do so, and then beginning to move in that direction.
4. Discontinue associating yourself with people who are often complaining, judging or criticizing.
Surround yourself with positive, uplifting, and supporting individuals, whether online or offline. Do not endure negativity in your energy field. What you surround yourself with is the energy you are inviting more into your life. In every interaction, prioritize feeling good first and learn to let go of people who are no longer adding value to your life. Make the atmosphere around you conducive to thinking positively and constructively towards events or other people.
Pass up on entertaining gossips, drama, and negative commentaries. As you let go of what’s holding you down, you make room for positive thoughts and ideas to come in.
5. Be a conscious responder to everything around you.
Whenever you have the tendency to immediately react to everything that’s going on, you activate all sorts of energy around you, including things you do not want in your life. Your vibration becomes scattered as you argue, or comment about all kinds of things.
Sift through the things you give attention to and do not indulge in focusing on the bad stuff. Focus your energy on solutions, on things that are working out, and things you appreciate. Train your mind to be selective rather than always reacting to whatever is coming your way.
6. Practice looking at the broader scheme of things. See the bigger picture.
Trust that there is always a bigger purpose to everything that’s happening in your life. Look at the long term benefits and treat each event you encounter as a stepping stone towards better and better outcomes. Always know that there is a blessing in every happening in your life and ask yourself, what opportunity does this situation give me? Think in terms of what good thing can this lead to, instead of treating a situation as an end in itself.
7. Create everyday rituals to cultivate positivity, appreciation and mindfulness.
Activities such as meditation, gratitude journaling, exercising, taking care of your health, or having a good night’s rest are all habits or rituals that can promote a positive lifestyle. These things will increase the momentum of positive energy in you so that you won’t be easily swayed to go in the opposite direction. As you become more stable in maintaining your positive vibrations, being negative won’t feel normal to you anymore. Deliberately practicing positive energies in your life will allow you to be more in tune with your feelings and immediately recognize any deviation at its early stages.
8. Welcome challenges and embrace new things.
Practice looking at challenges as part of your constant evolution and self-development towards mastering your own life. Be open to trying things that are new, and embrace the variety of opportunities for growth that life is giving you. Carry the perspective that life is always happening FOR you, and that every challenge is part of things working out. Constantly look for new ways to advance, and expect all changes that’s occurring as serving your personal evolution well.
9. Believe in yourself and in your capabilities.
Big or small, always give yourself credit for whatever you’re accomplishing. Celebrate your wins and embrace your own worthiness for all good things coming to your life. When you practice a positive attitude towards yourself, you will easily see your world in a positive light as well.
The positivity that you planted within will blossom and be expressed outward wherever you are. You will then gravitate towards more positive ideas because that’s where you are tuned into.
10. Commit to a daily constant practice of these positivity strategies. And remember to be easy on yourself in the process.
